Welcome! Each piece of designer jewelry from Sandpiper Jewelry Designs is a unique, wearable piece of art that I have handmade.
Much of my jewelry is made with flamework beads. Years ago I discovered
glass beads and took classes to learn how to make them. From the moment I lit that torch, I was hooked! All other materials
that are used in each piece, such as Sterling Silver, Wood, Gemstones, and Pearls, are of very
What is Flamework, a.k.a Lampwork?
Flameworking is a type of glasswork that uses a gas-fueled
torch to melt rods of clear and colored glass. Once in a molten state, the glass is formed into a bead by shaping it onto
a piece of metal, called a mandrel, and then manipulating it with a variety of tools and hand movements. It is also known
as lampworking or torchworking. The term "lampworking" comes from a time when oil-fueled lamps were used
to heat the glass. Although the art form has been practiced since ancient times, it became widely practiced in Murano,
Italy in the 14th century.
I take enormous pride in creating each piece and hope that you'll find something in my
catalog that you like. I can also create custom orders; call or email to let me know what you want. I look forward to doing business with you!
